A horrified father who put his newborn daughter in a carry chair on the ground behind his BMW but then forgot to put her inside ran her over and killed her in a horrific accident.
The tragedy occurred in the town of Altheim, near the city of Ulm in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg on Saturday afternoon, 26th July, with paramedics called to the scene but unable to help the infant.
According to reports, the father, who was not named, forgot he had not put the baby inside the car when he started the engine and reversed backwards, striking the child carrier.
The child apparently fell out of the chair and was then run over by the car.
Paramedics were called to the scene but they could only declare the four-month-old baby dead.
The father will now have to face a police investigation over the death.
A police spokesperson confirmed an expert report is being carried out to determine the exact sequence of events.
The authorities have not revealed personal details about the family or any other details at the time of writing.
The investigation is ongoing.
