This is the moment tourists fed a local spirit drink called baijiu to wild macaques at a mountain park.
The incident took place at Qianling Mountain Park in Guiyang in Guizhou Province, China, and video of it emerged on 20th August.
Video footage shows visitors pouring baijiu, a strong distilled liquor often containing more than 50 per cent alcohol, into bottles and holding them out for the monkeys to drink.
One man praises the macaques for their good alcohol tolerance as they consume the liquid.
Other voices in the footage urge the monkeys to drink "two more taels," a traditional Chinese measure equal to about 40 grammes, and say "you can drink better than me."
Research has shown that some primates voluntarily consume alcohol and can even develop dependence if repeatedly exposed. Rhesus macaques, for example, have been used in studies of alcohol addiction because they self-administer alcohol in controlled experiments.
In the wild, alcohol consumption can make monkeys more vulnerable to accidents, predators, and conflicts with other animals or humans.
Staff at Qianling Mountain Park said they have collected evidence and will report the matter to relevant departments.
They confirmed that macaques are Class II protected wild animals and feeding them is not permitted.
Park authorities stated that security staff are deployed along the way and will stop such incidents if they see them.
Visitors are being reminded not to feed the macaques and to maintain a safe distance.
