This is the moment a man trying to film a wild lion eating its prey is nearly mauled when the big cat suddenly charges at him, forcing him to run for his life.
The incident was filmed in Bhavnagar district, in the Indian state of Gujarat, and the footage was first shared on social media on 4th August.
The video shows a lion crouched beside a bush feeding on a carcass as a man in a dark shirt and white trousers walks directly towards it while holding up his mobile phone to record.
He continues to approach until the lion abruptly turns and charges, prompting the man to spin around and sprint away with the phone still filming.
The lion chases him across the grass for several metres before stopping short, while the man glances back repeatedly as he runs to safety.
It appears that the animal was an Asiatic lion, an endangered species found living in the state of Gujarat, and officials warned that such behaviour is both dangerous and illegal under India’s Wildlife Protection Act.
