This is the moment a fisherman reels in what is left of his prized tuna - after a shark bites off most of the fish, leaving behind only its head and gills.
The dramatic footage was captured off the coast of Sakhalin Island, in Russia’s Far East, on 31st July.
The video shows the angler struggling to land a large catch, only for the fish to finally break the surface in a grisly state, with its body bitten clean away by what experts believe was a great white shark.
Then as the fisherman turns the camera towards the water, the shark can be seen apparently tailing the boat.
The incident came amid a spate of reports from local fishermen claiming that sharks have been "terrorising" the area, stealing catches and even trailing boats in search of leftovers.
Experts say the sudden appearance of white sharks near Sakhalin is linked to a rare rise in water temperatures, which recently reached 25°C in the Tatar Strait. The warmer waters have attracted large tuna - and with them, large predators.
According to Alexander Buslov, deputy director of the Pacific branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography, sightings of white sharks in the area previuosly occurred only about once every 40 years.
Buslov warned that if the warming trend continues, the number of sharks could increase, posing a growing challenge for local fishermen.
