This is the moment a massive container ship tilts alarmingly to one side as strong winds battered the nearby port
The incident happened in the Port of Imbituba, in the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, on Wednesday, 20th August, as an extratropical cyclone moved along the coast towards Argentina and Uruguay.
Video filmed from the beach and nearby houses shows the ship rocking heavily in the waves as it approached the pier to dock.
The vessel was unable to reach the pier and four tugboats had to help guide it to the anchorage area, where it remains safely stationary.
The administration of the Port of Imbituba said the ship "had difficulties accessing the pier when trying to dock, due to strong winds," but confirmed the situation was under control and no one was injured.
They added that the ship returned to anchorage and is awaiting stable conditions to attempt docking again.
The ship belongs to the French company CMA CGM, one of the world's largest container shipping operators, active in more than 160 countries including Brazil.
Civil Defence reported that wind gusts in the area reached up to 90kph (55mph) and affected several vessels along the Santa Catarina coast.
By Wednesday night, the weather front had begun to move away from the state, with conditions expected to improve in all regions moving towards the weekend.
