This is the moment a performer on a motorcycle falls from a height during a circus performance and nearly gets run over by another rider.

The incident happened at the Dragon Dream International Circus in Huzhou, in Zhejiang Province, China, on the evening of 18th August.

Video filmed by a member of the audience shows six stuntmen riding motorcycles and jumping from ramps at heights of around six to seven metres (19 to 22 feet).

But the fifth stuntman’s motorcycle lands badly and topples over and the rider falls from the bike and rolls down the ramp, narrowly getting out of the final rider's path.

Audience members can be heard reacting in shock as the accident happens.

The person who filmed the video said that after the fall, an ambulance arrived at the scene.

They added that at the curtain call only five stuntmen appeared.

According to promotional material released by Taihu Dragon Dream Park in July the motorcycle stunt show Extreme Speed involved riders from seven South American countries performing on a 24-metre (78-foot) track described as the longest of its kind in China.

On 19th August, customer service staff at Taihu Dragon Dream Resort said the circus was continuing as normal and that the motorcycle event was unaffected.

They said stunt performers occasionally get injured but are treated promptly.

The Changxing County Culture and Tourism Bureau said the injured performer had been sent to hospital and confirmed the fall was due to an error in the acrobatic performance.

They said the performance company had been told to strengthen training for its stunt riders to avoid future risks.

Officials from the Taihu Tuying Tourism Resort Management Committee said that injuries to stunt performers are usually handled internally by the circus and that if the circus refuses responsibility or payment of medical costs the matter can be resolved through mediation at the Conflict Mediation Centre.
